Overpopulation of prominent woody species
The entire composition of the Royal Game Preserve park builds largely on using various introduced woody species. Introduced species are not original in our environment and were imported to the Czech Republic for utilitarian, decorative, or other purposes. Introduced taxa and garden cultivars have always been a fixture of the park composition, turning it into a major woody species collection over time as a result.
Some of the historical specimens (in particular those that date back to the mid-19th century) are actually the first introduced (imported) examples of their species on the Czech territory. The biological, cultural, historical, and aesthetic value of these specimens is immense – even unique.
With a view to preserving important specimens, in particular of introduced species as well as ancient garden cultivars and notable examples of domestic species, the following project was launched in 2020: “Overpopulation of prominent woody species in the Royal Game Preserve park”.
The project has singled out several dozen important specimens, which have been proposed for procreation to the point of overpopulation, to be subsequently planted in suitable locations within the Royal Game Preserve park composition.
